Diversity 2010 „JEDEN - ZERO”

Flying screens

Diversity - the contest has been held by Motorola every year since 2000, so for the 10th time by now. Interesting subjects enable wide interpretation and for that reason created projects are varied, which can be easily noticed especially in winning projects in all 9 previous editions. Diversity might be observed in the teams as well, since there must be at least 50% of women in each team, which makes computer science a subject popular not only with manhood, but also with the opposite sex. The aim of our project is to prove that study does not have to be a nightmare -it may come easy and pleasant, as well as hated by many mathematics can occur plain and logical. We show that it is always possible to improve one's skills by entertainment (absorbing games and plays) which increases desirable effect.

Logic

(from the Greek λογική logikē) is the study of reasoning. Logic is used in most intellectual activity, but is studied primarily in the disciplines of philosophy, mathematics, and computer science.
Logical thinking might sometimes occur problematic (often caused by laziness); it is useful and necessary in everybody's life, though. It helps to find dozens of solutions of everyday problems, and makes people's attitude towards life individual. People form their own opinions and ideas, they do not think stereotypically, but resolve and draw conclusions by themselves. Mature way of thinking proves one's maturity in privet life. Unfortunately, logical thinking is not hereditary, but can be easily developed by learning scientific subjects and playing logic and puzzle games.

We divide the processes of thinking with regard to different aspects:

1. Operating aspect
Thinking turns into a series of notions. It consists in noticing connections, ignoring differences, generalizing notions, and eventually creating new ones.
It's disorders are excessive generalizing and specifying, as well as too subjective associating.

Rubik's cube

2. Dynamic Aspect
Thinking requires suitable pace, it stimulates imagination. Marginal associating are the symptoms of disorders. They usually divagate from the main motif or relating t one associating only, even if it does not always results in desirable effect.

3. Motivational Aspect
Leading the process of thinking to a concrete aim. the symptoms of disorders are: multithreaded way of thinking, referring to different topics, not keeping pace to the main topic, undefined aim.

About project masters

Our whole four attends to one secondary school - I Liceum Ogólnokształcącego im. Antoniego Osuchowskiego w Cieszynie(www.osuch.edu.pl) to one class and one profile (mathematic+IT).
It's the second time when we start in the contest, with a little team-change, and greater experience in contest rules and work-style. This year, work seems to be more organised. Experience gained from last "Diversity" teached us how much time we really need to sacrifice, to complete the Project - and to see a good results of it.
Our team have some interests that we share - like Sciences or computer studies, but every of us have his individual hobbies and passions.

Why logic?
Our first, reflexive associating with digits "0-1" was binary system. However, we recognised that this topic is too banal, too... obvious... so we continued to thinka about the meaning. Our second idea - "one for truth, zero for falseness" - logician mathematical! Anyway, we were not fully satisfied with that topic, as it was too... easy. After "brain storm", after heavy discussion, after consideration of all possibilities, we decided to choose topic very close to our first association. Topic, which is very general, but very very close for us, which covers something, which gives us big advantage... Simply: logician.
